The North Fund is a 501(c)(4) non-partisan organization that supports social impact initiatives and campaigns to create a more just, fair, and equitable society. We support diverse grantees, including a group that organizes pen pal programs for incarcerated women, an organization that offers mentoring and financial literacy programming to underserved communities, and a variety of advocates working to advance more inclusive public policy.
The North Fund identifies and evaluates applications from leaders engaged in important missions, educational initiatives and campaigns that seek to expand equity and improve the quality of life for people and communities across the United States.
Our projects use a variety of tactics to uplift communities and create real and lasting change across the country. For example, the North Fund supports projects that build effective, efficient, and powerful ballot initiative campaigns. We also support advocacy campaigns designed to policy wins that lead to sustainable, long-term impact.
In 2020, our fiscally sponsored projects supported eight ballot initiatives, including successful efforts to expand Medicaid in Missouri, to legalize marijuana in Montana, and to establish a paid family leave program in Colorado. We also fiscally sponsored advocacy efforts in support of a federal paid leave policy as well as an effort to ensure full representation to the more than 700,000 residents who live in the District of Columbia.
